Dress Code

The uniform dress code begins with the first day of school. ARAD/SLDS requires its students to present themselves in a neat and clean manner at all times. The dress code will be enforced by the classroom teacher, school staff, and the principal.

Girls

  • Girls should wear a knee-length white/blue plaid jumper and a Peter Pan shirt (grades K-4) or an oxford shirt (grades 5-8). Short sleeves may be worn in warm weather.
  • Socks should be navy blue tights, knee socks, or ankle socks (no sports socks — socks must reach ankle) and blue saddle shoes. Sneakers are not permitted.
  • A navy blue sweater/vest is mandatory from November 1st to March 31st in grades 5-8 and optional but strongly suggested for grades 1-4.
  • Hair should be pulled back away from the face as much as possible. One pair of earrings may be worn, and they must be flush against the ear. No hoops or dangling earrings may be worn.
  • Optional: White polos may be worn from September to October 31st and from April 15th through June.

Prohibited items include:

  • Athletic footwear (except for gym class), clogs, sandals, shoe boots (prohibited shoes may be worn to and from school but not during school hours)
  • Extreme hairdos expressing the latest styles
  • Nail polish or make-up
  • Dangling earrings, necklaces, bracelets or rings.

Boys

  • Boys should wear navy blue trousers with a white shirt and tie. Trousers must be worn to the waist, not the hips, and a belt must be worn if the trousers have loops.
  • Socks should be navy or black (no sport socks — socks must reach ankle) and black non-marking soled oxfords.
  • A navy blue sweater/vest is mandatory from November 1st to March 31st in grades 5-8 and optional but strongly suggested for grades 1-4.
  • Hair should be tapered cut or cut about the collar, and may not extend over the ears and eyebrows.
  • Boys must be clean-shaven
  • Optional: White polos may be worn from September to October 31st and from April 15th through June.

Prohibited items include:

  • Extreme hairstyles expressing the latest fashions (spikes, tracks, line or lines, bowl cut, shaved side with a heavy
    crop on the top)
  • Tight or rolled up trouser cuffs, non-uniform trousers (Levis, Painters, corduroys, pockets in front)
  • Any boot type shoe (including work boots) or sandals
  • Athletic footwear (except for gym class)
  • Hats
  • Earrings, necklaces, chokers, dog chains, bracelets or rings

Gym Uniform

  • Navy blue sweatshirt or t-shirt
  • Navy blue sweat pants or mesh shorts of appropriate length
  • Sneakers and socks

Preschool Students

  • Preschool students may wear the gym uniform.
